    The Rivers of Sofia

    The Rivers of Sofia: Connecting Rivers and the City

    The Rivers of Sofia project united citizens, experts, and the private sector in reviving rundown riverbanks that had been inaccessible since the 1940s. Architectural interventions, festivals, and a collaborative working group transformed the rivers into gathering space for diverse groups. It restored the rivers’ connection to the city and reclaimed a place for urban nature in Sofia. It also opened up civic and institutional dialogue about waterways’ future and catalysed long-term change.

    'Spazio Amato': Homage to the Territory

    Spazio Amato: a monumental work of art in the WWF Nature Reserve of the Burano Lake, Tuscany

    Spazio Amato is the great neon light installation created by the artist Massimo Uberti for Hypermaremma 2020 as a tribute to the exceptional landscape of the Maremma Region, in Tuscany. The work is located in Terre di Sacra in the naturalistic oasis of Lake Burano; managed by WWF, and it is intended to establish a dialogue with the surrounding landscape. The aim of the artwork is to inspire the viewer to reflect on the unique character of the landscape and the value of preserving it.

Ruesta makes all who visit it fall in love, and reveals a territorial reality: the uninhabited Spain. The actions carried out have made possible the recovery of the Way as it passes through Ruesta, as well as the rehabilitation and restoration of its heritage. The actuations developed are proposing new ways of inhabiting the Way of St James, as this region vital sustenance.

    Our university collective is working on a concept of design, studies, and construction of braided shells of all sizes for a public use, in order to : - Improve the environment of the inhabitants in the cities; - Build with bio-sourced and local fibers such as wicker or rattan. It has been experiments thoughts pavilions in the public park of the Butte du Chapeau Rouge in Paris. We now want to conduct research to make this architecture even more effective

    AB is characterized by the adaptation of the architecture to the surroundings: the bay between the Torres River, the Sant Josep stream and the cove, with the mountainous backdrop. The buildings, like imposing trees, rise on a stone pedestal and display their sinuous and organic forms that make up the large terraces at different heights. The philosophy of listening to and integrating the landscape is visible both in the forms and in the materials and colors drawn from the original landscape.

    The project aims at sensitizing the viewer to the importance and quality of the value of darkness - it teaches respect for the night time. It shows that light allows transforming landscape into spatial systems thus revealing their uniqueness and peculiarity, which has a positive impact on people. As a result we feel more open and integrated, full of energy and power for further activity.
