Description

Through the daily care of the lake as well as the creation of the Lake Gallery, a carefully maintained public recreation area has been created, which is a favorite place of the city's citizens not only from the nearby housing estates. Creation in its surroundings leads people to the natural need to take care of nature, order and motivates them to be part of the creation itself. The diversity of birds has increased, flowers and people can follow the craft during the carving itself.

Activities around and on the lake made a pleasant suburb rest place with preserving the natural environment. The lake is situated on the right site of the stream and is regulated and based on its water level. In addition to a rest it has water retential function during torrential rains. There are 4 sculptures in human size on the water surface ( Lake lady, Charon, Fishman with gold fish and waterman). They were made by slovak carvers right on the place and with the help of the crane placed at the bottom of the lake. There are the other two sculptures on the lake shore -dragon and Kali, both of them made from uprooted trees. Around lake there are many wooden benches . The lake shore was paved by the agate rounds and old recycling wood along the sidewalk. The shores are planted by aquatic plants. During all these activieties a group of enthusiasts was formed. People all ages like to visit this place and have a rest. Many of them are permanent helpers in care of the lake during whole year. It consists of neighborhood cleaning, lake cleanig by the divers, mowing, planting summer flowers...During the year there are take place a meeting of people, with theatrical performance of local amateur actors, with demonstration the work of carves, with light music...

Please give information about the key objectives of your project in terms of sustainability (including circularity) and how these have been met.
Please highlight how the project can be exemplary in this context

The primary goal of the project was to take care of the lake and its natural environment. Over time, as we managed the environment itself, it brought us inspiration. Combining what we love - human art - with the beauty of the art of nature itself. The idea arose to unite the two arts into one whole through the lake gallery. A cycle of austerity and creation arose. Circularity of life. By caring, we create, and by creating, we care. Everything comes from nature and returns to it. Through our own example of creation to inspire the others to create the environment of which we want to be a part.

Please give information about the key objectives of your project in terms of aesthetics and quality of experience beyond functionality and how these have been met.
Please highlight how the project can be exemplary in this context

In addition to the fact that caring for the lake and its environment brings environmental benefits, at the same time, through art, it creates a community of people longing for harmony, beauty, co-creation, affiliation...Our project provides proof that people in the city also feel connected with nature, are close to traditions and crafts, are interested in creating someone else in order to create a common whole. Many people come up with their own ideas and direct assistance in maintaining as well as improving the built-up rest area. They feel part of creation, the environment, they care about it.  The project is expanding with various forms of education, from lectures with nature conservationists on the spot, with the creek administrator during its maintenance.

Please give information about the key objectives of your project in terms of inclusion (equal opportunities, public participation, citizen engagement, co-design, universal design, accessibility, affordability, etc.) and how these have been met.
Please highlight how the project can be exemplary in this context

The relaxation zone is about 5 minutes walk from the housing estate. It is also available by bike. The car can be parked about 100 m from it. It is freely accessible and free of charge.

The universal design is based on the proposal of our civic association, which we are the authors. The co - design is based on the piece of soul of each author. Everyone can participate in volunteering after an agreement with the members of our civic association. The ideas have equal oportunities if they are fitting to our concept.

The project is funded by the city and also by voluntary contributions from the public.

Please explain how these three dimensions have been combined in your project.
Please highlight how this approach can be exemplary

Our project is the sample of sustainability, public participation, co - works by many artists and hepl of many volunteers in many ways. Many of their ideas were transferred to the project.

Employees of a nearby company, who go to work through the area, came up with the idea to support activities around the lake both physically and materially.

Every year the kindergartens look forward to an event where children can get known with the work/craft itself, learn interesting facts about the local nature, spend a nice day by the lake with music and snack.

Public visits the place  not only for relaxation but also for curiosity about what has been added around.

Please give information on the results/impacts achieved by your project in relation to the category you apply for

The area is popular among all age categories. Everyone can find what they need there. Everyone can contribute what they want,

a peaceful visit or active approach. You don´t have to go out the city to spend time in real nature.

Please explain how citizens and civil society were involved in the in the design and/or implementation of the project.
Please also explain the benefits that derived from their involvement.

The work began as a voluntary activity of the city representatives, who built a water regulation between the stream and the lake.

And thus ensured the exchange of water in the pond and thus its cleaning and water level regulation.  We continued these activities with our civic association, where we extended the care of the lake to the surrounding environment. Gradually, as part of voluntary activities, residents of the housing estate as well as friends and colleagues from work joined us in an effort to help in their own way.

Please explain what kind of global challenges the project addressed by providing local solutions

Return to nature.

Taking responsibility for the environment in which I live.

Connecting people.

Return to craft and traditions

Show in reality, that you can be the change you want to see

Please highlight the innovative character of the project as compared to mainstream practices in the field of the project.

it's about the approach itself:

It was not the first fictional project that was applied in the field. The procedure was reversed. This project was created, based on nature itself, from the place itself. The public was not in demand but volunteered.

Please explain to the potential of transferring the projects’ results or learnings to other interested parties and contexts.
Please provide clear documentation, communication of methodology and principles in this context.

There are a lot of places in town Martin ( or anywhere)  with nature, historical or geografical potentional, which can be supported by this way of approach.

We don´t have to make new things, we just put use to an old one, with using handcrafts of each other community. Very importnt is local feeling, knowledge of local shortcomings, needs...

It is about trust and an effort to create.

Is an evaluation report or any relevant documentation available?
