Please provide a summary of your project

Zumaia’s flysch is located in the coast of Gipuzkoa (Basque Country). However, it can also be found in more areas along the Basque coastline.  Flysch consist in several cliffs in different spots, in some cases with more than 60 million years of history. Forming a geopark, a true geological treasure. These are the roots of one of Europe’s most ancient towns.

On Zumaia’s cliff, San Telmo’s Hermitage is visible, its first written reference date back to 1540. This emblematic building is dedicated to the protector of sailors.

Due to their history, beauty and symbology being typical of Basque Country, Zumaia’s Flysch and San Telmo’s Hermitage together create a unique setting due to its beauty, geological value and history.

Well-known TV shows such as Game of Thrones, among others, where shot in this area. Due to its breath-taking landscape and natural surroundings.

Zumaia was the location where the event took place. There took place Bihotza, an electronical and avant-garde music session surrounded by emblematical places. As a result, there music and heritage were taken into account, two protagonists of the main project Dantz Point.

The session was recorded live and then broadcasted on various platforms with local, state and international significance. Without forgetting about the aesthetic of the event, the environment and the inclusion of anybody in the cultural community.

Dantz Point has a commitment to the environment in its DNA, which is why they are non-destructive activities. In other words they do not harm the environment since all the assembly and disassembly (technical equipment, platforms ...) are done taking into account the natural specifications of each space.

On the other hand, the digitalization of cultural events guarantees a safe space for the natural spaces that are chosen, promoting their value and importance in a non-destructive way. Furthermore, the productions of these events were carried out emitting the least amount of waste possible, such as paper, ink… among others.

Looking ahead to the immediate future, all the energy that Dantz will be using will involve sustainable ways through renewable electric power generators: solar, wind,…

Please give information about the key objectives of your project in terms of aesthetics and quality of experience beyond functionality and how these have been met.
Please highlight how the project can be exemplary in this context

The Dantz Points are artistic actions, especially sessions in emblematic places and with two protagonists: music and heritage. The sessions are recorded live and broadcast on various platforms with local, state and international significance.

Zumaia’s Dantz Point It was called Bihotza and was keen on making people have a unique and memorable experience. Those experiences connect two leading protagonists of Dantz philosophy: nature or heritage of the local region (the breathtaking surrounding of Zumaia’s Flysch - Basque Country) and the electronical music.

That experience was unique, aesthetic, taking place in a town from Gipuzkoa which has a long history and where there is located San Telmo’s hermitage. An emblematic building dedicated to the protector of sailors whose first written reference date is back to 1540.

In order to provide that remarkable event, Dantz used a high artistically quality, selected musicians and themes that contributes to make the essence and beauty of San Telmo’s hermitage and Zumaia’s Flysch outstanding.

Dantz Point Zumaia, involves history of the Basque Country, beauty, symbology and geological value. Taking into account the local heritage together with musical artists, we provide people an unforgettable experience with a high quality. We make the spectator, have a complete experience involving the natural environment together with music.

All things considered, the digital viewers, because of Covid-19, immersed in a sea of sensations and stimuli, where they can enjoy the aesthetics, the view, the landscapes, the buildings and the heritage, and learn at the same time, since these pieces promote history and culture.

Please give information about the key objectives of your project in terms of inclusion (equal opportunities, public participation, citizen engagement, co-design, universal design, accessibility, affordability, etc.) and how these have been met.
Please highlight how the project can be exemplary in this context

Without doubt one of the main value and strength of this project is the inclusion. Bihotza, the Dantz Point that took place in Zumaia, focused on making people feel that they are part of a community, above all in the cultural area.

Due to the fact that when this event took place in the period of the Covid-19, the restrictions were still going on, Dantz had to rethink how to make our followers have that experience in a different way.

Dantz decided that this experience would be broadcasted in many platforms that provided the viewer a cultural access to a community, group and collective, mainly to those who are in a disadvantaged position.

Two pillars on which the project is based are music and heritage, both of them opened to everyone, exclude no one.

Please explain how these three dimensions have been combined in your project.
Please highlight how this approach can be exemplary

Dantz Point Zumaia – Bihotza, has a clear idea of the importance of our natural environment. Focusing on that, the project was located in one of the most breath-taking landscapes of the Basque Country, as Zumaia’s Flysch. Moreover, it provided to the viewer the chance of being part of that memorable festival.

As the event took place in the pandemic period, the original idea of Dantz Point had to be changed. So Dantz decided that the project would carry out and made changes to adjust to the actual situation.

On account of this, Bihotza was a broadcasted event hand out to the spectator to make them fell part of the festival. That chance gave the viewer an experience where they have a look of the natural surroundings, they can learn about the history of the location and have a musical encounter.

Furthermore, this experience took place in a true geological treasure, so to contribute in a cultural event which was opened to everyone, aesthetic and took into account the importance of the environment, Dantz used resources that were non-destructive.

Please give information on the results/impacts achieved by your project in relation to the category you apply for

The project was Bihotza and the main idea of the project was to make the viewers experience a musical and avant-garde event taking place in a breath-taking landscape.

As the project took place on December 2021, due to the fact that the Covid restrictions were still going, the project took place in Zumaia’s Flysch. The viewers instead of going to the place that the event festival took place, they took part in the project in a digital way, watching it through broadcasting platforms.

Instead people get a look of the natural environment and the significance it has on the Basque Country’s history. Moreover, the eyewitnesses get attached to the location and comprehend the importance of such a geopark.

Dantz Point Zumaia – Bihotza had a reach of more than 100.000 viewers, who felt as part of the event, and immersed in sensations that gave them such a unique experience resulting from the togetherness of the electronical music and the natural location.

As the Point festival was filmed and then published on Dantz social networks, YouTube, Twitter, among others, had an extensive reach to the public.

Please explain how citizens and civil society were involved in the in the design and/or implementation of the project.
Please also explain the benefits that derived from their involvement.

A great factor of the Dantz Point project is its added value thanks to the joint work of all the agents. Bihotza’s realization cannot reach those results without the collaboration due to the fact that they provide more information than the other parties are unaware of such point of view, a vision and a wisdom that the other parties are unaware of. Therefore, it is worth emphasizing the importance of cooperation to transcend the borders between states to address the development of other territories. This cooperation made the project generate the benefits it had:

Create synergies between cultural groups of different branches. In this way, each of these contributes their part and point of view of the project, managing to form a completed piece from various approaches. Apart from that it has to be taken into account that this was an experience, a journey and a previous work carried out by each of these groups. In addition, we will encourage the involvement of new groups for the future.

Crossroads of artists: The possibility of sharing local artists from each area, promoting the participation of inter-territorial cultural agents.

Create a community where professional agents, artists, viewers can share experiences and experiences, opinions and much more. In this way we promote citizen participation with culture.

Eliminate barriers, working for a joint future where the territories coexist and feed each other to grow, develop, learn and settle as one.

Please explain what kind of global challenges the project addressed by providing local solutions

Dantz Point are festivals are events that take into account the most important matters of nowadays world. These experiences are unique that take into account the diversity when it comes to people, music... among others.

These sessions boost the social inclusion, such as, accessibility and affordability...  It also takes into consideration the importance of the local cultural heritage. Experiences such as Bihotza in Zumaia, were broadcasted to anyone all around the world who wanted to have such an experience.

Dantz Point makes possible to make people live through those sessions make the viewers experience sensations. The appearance of this kind of feeling are conceived by the musical and breath-taking landscape.

Dantz has as a challenge to involve everyone developing sensations and making them feel part of a community without neglecting when it comes to religion, gender, race... It also believes that our environment is important and we have to take care of them, so, by broadcasting online the sessions, the spectators learn about those places by the explanation given to them and they see the surrounding we have in the Basque Country.

Please highlight the innovative character of the project as compared to mainstream practices in the field of the project.

The Dantz Point are born from the fusion between new technologies, culture and electronic and avant-garde music, therefore, it is in constant development.

The very nature of the project, which seeks to digitize culture, is based on new technologies, which provide a large number of possibilities. On the one hand, the use of new digital platforms and social networks such as Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube… amidst further, allow us to connect with audiences from all over the world, of all ages and cultures. On the other hand, the use of new communication models and strategies such as cross-posting or cross-posting make it possible to fully exploit the potential of these digital tools.

With all this, Dantz Point manages to give a new twist to the way of consuming culture and becomes a perfect channel for reaching new audiences.

Please explain to the potential of transferring the projects’ results or learnings to other interested parties and contexts.
Please provide clear documentation, communication of methodology and principles in this context.

The most important part of any Dantz Point is its simplicity of execution and transfer to other territories and spaces. After several editions, has been developed a very simple plan to follow that ensures that everything is going correctly and in a good way. The plan mentioned has the following steps:

Preparation: Search for emblematic, charismatic places with cultural and historical weight. These spaces are divided by the three territories.

Pre-production: Selection of the theme and selecting the artist who will carry out the session. Prepare all the necessary material, cameras, drones, tables, among others.

Execution: The session is effectuated in the selected space previously chosen. Those sessions are recorded, in addition to taking images and videos of the places for later editing.

In Bihotza’s case the Dantz Point was filmed and photographed to publish on the social networks. So as the pandemic was still going on in the due date of the project, the production was not designed taking the public into account.

Edition: With all the material taken such as images, videos and music, is generated an audio-visual piece, which is later broadcast on digital platforms (Twitch, Facebook...).

It is important to highlight that the videos include texts in three languages (English, Spanish nd Basque), disclosing the characteristics, history and explanation of the place where the action is carried out.

Also during promotion and communication, before each event, the Dantz Points offer information about the location (history, characteristics...). Thus creating a disclosure channel through these Dantz Point.
